![]() ![]() I adored how the women of the novel – primarily Eozena and Seliha – wielded their power without hesitation. The idea that ‘body-fathers’ only had claim over their children if women chose to grant them that power was so intriguing. I loved the concept of same sex arranged marriage, and how casually those elements were introduced. This made the political world-building so interesting. I loved the seamless use of different pronouns, and the normalisation of sexual and gender fluidity. I will never get tired of reading fantasy stories that are void of any queerphobia, and all the nasty aspects of our own world. There are so many elements I could praise, but the most important part of this story is how queerness is normalised. Sometimes a book can feel like it was written for you, and I felt that every single time I sat down to return to this astonishing world. ![]() This book has everything that I love about stories. ![]() Now that I am an adult, I prefer to read about people my own age, and it fills me with so much joy to see novels like A Taste of Gold and Iron being published. ![]() I grew up reading all the big YA fantasies and was disappointed every single time I didn’t see myself represented in the stories. Queer fantasies will forever hold a special place in my heart. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() On The Spartacus Road is a fusion of a typical memoir and a history book, detailing former The Times editor, Peter Stothard’s journey along “The Spartacus Road” that takes you from Rome to Capua, to the first slave stronghold at Mount Vesuvius (featured in Spartacus: Vengeance) and lastly to Senerchia where the battle that would seal Spartacus’s and the rebel armies fate took place. On The Spartacus Road: A Journey Through Ancient Italy by Peter Stothard Following this fantastic find I started snooping around the net for both fictional and non-fictional tales of the gladiators legacy, and I would like to share with you five of the most interesting discoveries I made, whether you simply have an interest in his history or, like me, you wish to fill the gap left by the show. As a massive fan of the show there was a Spartacus shaped void looming over me following the finale, until I came across an article on The Wall Street Journal that made historical reference to this brilliant little book The Spartacus War. Starz incredibly popular Spartacus series – which depicted the gladiators journey from freedom to slavery and then rebellion – sadly came to its conclusion on Friday with undoubtedly one of the greatest finales in TV history. And it took another intervention, this time staged by one of her homegirls, to turn Brittney into the fierce feminist she is today. When Cooper learned of her grandmother's eloquent rage about love, sex, and marriage in an epic and hilarious front-porch confrontation, her life was changed. It reminds women that they don’t have to settle for less. It’s what makes Michelle Obama an icon.Įloquent rage keeps us all honest and accountable. It’s what makes Beyoncé’s girl power anthems resonate so hard. Black women’s eloquent rage is what makes Serena Williams such a powerful tennis player. But Cooper shows us that there is more to the story than that. Far too often, Black women’s anger has been caricatured into an ugly and destructive force that threatens the civility and social fabric of American democracy. ![]() ![]() ![]() Anna Richland Narrated by: Delisha Forrest Try for 0.
